Bow mounted trolling motors
Trolling motors are either mounted at the front of the boat (bow mounted) or at the back of the boat (transom mounted). Bow mounted trolling motors are more popular than transom mounted motors, primarily because it offers better control of the boat.
Bow mounted advantages
- Offers more precise control
- Larger selection – more trolling motors are available
- Permanently affixed to the boat – once attached the you don't need to worry about it
- May be controlled by your foot
Bow mounted disadvantages
- Requires a flat boat deck
- Takes up more room than a transom mounted motor
- Permanently affixed to the boat – you can easily share the motor between boats
- More difficult to install than a transom mounted motor
